Travis County Jail Inmate Search & Roster 2026

Travis County, Texas · Live custody and family-action guide

Travis County Booking Lookup: Find Housing, Charges, Bond, Visits and Court Dates

Travis County maintains a live inmate search for people currently in county custody. The useful part is not simply finding a matching name: families need the seven-digit booking number, jail ID, current facility, each charge, each bond line and the related court case before taking action.

This all-in-one guide explains the search result and the next steps for Central Booking in downtown Austin or the Correctional Complex in Del Valle—including bond, visitation, mail, calls, deposits, SecurePak, property, mental health, medical care, court records, VINE alerts and release or transfer checks.

Verify identity and housing before acting: Travis County warns that its public inmate data may not be complete or error-free. Match the full name, date of birth, jail ID or booking number and current facility. A booking or charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt.

Choose the correct Travis County inmate-search route

1
Need current custody and bond

Use the Sheriff’s live inmate search. Save the booking number, jail ID, housing location, charges and every bond line.

2
Need court date or attorney

Use Travis County’s public court portal after copying the case or cause number from the custody result.

3
Need an old incarceration record

Request a TCSO incarceration record. Available records cover May 1988 to the present and are not the same as a criminal-history report.

Prepare these details before searching

Full legal first and last name
Date of birth or approximate age
Possible maiden, former or compound surname
Approximate arrest or booking date
Arresting police department or agency
Booking, jail ID or cause number when known

What do you need to do?

Jump directly to the task rather than opening multiple government pages.

How to read a Travis County inmate-search result

Fields that control the next action
Field or status What it means What to do next
Seven-digit booking number The transaction-style identifier used for deposits, mail, SecurePak and service accounts. Copy all seven digits exactly; Western Union joins the number to the last name without spaces or hyphens.
Jail ID A second inmate identity used by TCSO and accepted in mail or account instructions. Keep it with the full name and date of birth when speaking to jail staff.
Housing facility The person is assigned either to downtown Travis County Jail or a building within the Del Valle complex. Use that location for mail, property, cash bond and arrival planning.
Charge An allegation associated with the booking or court case. Use the court portal for later filings, settings, amendments, dismissal or disposition.
Any type of bond Cash, surety or personal bond may be accepted for that charge. Ask which option is practical and confirm whether all other charges are also releasable.
Cash or surety A personal bond is not accepted for that charge. Prepare the full cash bond or use a licensed surety-bond route after verifying the case.
No bond information available No bond has been set for that charge yet; it may be set later. Check the magistrate or court process and retry the live result after judicial review.
Hold or detainer Another warrant, jurisdiction, probation matter or agency may control release. Ask which agency placed the hold and obtain its case or warrant number.
Release or transfer The person may have left county custody or moved to another facility. Confirm the receiving agency before sending mail, money or scheduling another visit.
Correct-person check: Use at least two identifiers beyond a name—for example date of birth plus booking number, or jail ID plus booking date. A common name or photograph alone is not enough.
Troubleshooting

No Travis County inmate record found? Use this order

The arrest happened very recently Central Booking may still be processing identification, medical screening, charges and magistrate paperwork. Retry later and call the jail line.
The name may be recorded differently Search the last name alone, then try a maiden name, removed hyphen, compound surname, suffix or alternate spelling.
A city agency made the arrest Confirm whether the person has reached Travis County Central Booking or remains with the arresting agency or hospital.
The person was released quickly A personal bond, citation, case dismissal or other judicial action may occur before family completes the search.
The person was transferred Ask for the receiving county, state, federal, hospital or treatment facility before using another locator.
A court case exists without custody Use the public court portal. An active or historical case does not mean the defendant is currently jailed.
You need historical proof Request an incarceration record rather than relying on the current-custody roster.
You suspect a warrant but no booking Use TCSO’s warrant search or call Central Warrants at 512-854-9751.
Useful phone script “I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], is currently in Travis County custody. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. I have [booking, jail ID or cause number]. Can you confirm the current facility, release status or receiving agency?”

What happens after an arrest in Travis County?

People arrested by Travis County-area law-enforcement agencies are brought to the Central Booking Facility inside Travis County Jail at 500 W. 10th Street.

Arrival and identity processing Booking staff establish identity, record the arresting agency and charge information, inventory property and begin the jail record.
Medical and mental-health screening Every person is screened at Central Booking. Staff may determine treatment needs, safe housing or referral to medical or behavioral-health providers.
Magistrate and bond information The defendant appears before a judge or magistrate. Bond type, amount, no-bond status or release conditions may be added after this review.
Pretrial interview Pretrial officers interview eligible defendants, verify residence, employment and references, review criminal history and make a personal-bond recommendation. The court—not Pretrial Services—makes the release decision.
Housing assignment or release processing A person who remains in custody may move from Central Booking to the correctional complex. A released person receives paperwork with a court date.
Transfer or continued custody The person may remain awaiting trial, serve local time or move to another agency after court or sentence action.
Why the roster changes: Intake, magistrate review, personal-bond screening, housing movement, release and transfer can all change the public result during the same day.

No bond is set yet for that charge. A judge may set one later.

How to post a Travis County cash bond

Verify the current housing location Call 512-854-4180 to learn whether payment belongs at the downtown Bonding Office or the Del Valle complex.
Check every charge and hold Confirm the amount and bond type for every case. Ask whether another warrant, county, probation matter, immigration issue or court order prevents release.
Prepare the full amount Cash bonds require exact cash, a cashier’s check or money order. The Sheriff does not make change or accept an overage.
Make the instrument payable correctly Cashier’s checks and money orders for Travis County charges should be payable to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
Bring identification and inmate details Carry government photo ID plus the defendant’s full name, date of birth, booking number and cause number.
Keep the Sheriff’s receipt The receipt is important for later cash-bond refund processing and for proving who posted the money.

Personal bond screening

Travis County Pretrial Services interviews defendants, verifies residence, employment and references, performs a criminal-history check and may gather victim input in family-violence or other victim-oriented cases. Officers recommend whether personal bond and conditions may be appropriate; the judge makes the final decision.

Pretrial Services

512-854-9381

The investigations unit operates 365 days a year and provides public information about interviewed defendants’ personal-bond status.

Cash bond refund after the case

Wait for case disposition and a judge’s order A signed refund order must be filed before the District Clerk can process a felony cash-bond refund.
Attach the Sheriff’s bond receipt The receipt identifies the person who posted the bond and supports the refund claim.
Allow the statutory waiting period After the signed order is filed, a 30-day waiting period begins; processing then takes about 7–10 business days.
Account for the possible fee Some criminal cash-bond refunds are reduced by 5% of the bond amount, capped at $50.
Use the correct clerk Class A, Class B and appealed Class C misdemeanor refunds go through the County Clerk; felony refunds go through the District Clerk.
Phone-scam warning: TCSO says its officers will not call and demand payment. Independently call an official county number before sending money to anyone claiming a bond, warrant or release emergency.

Traditional commissary vs. SecurePak

Traditional commissary

The inmate orders approved items through jail kiosks and pays from the Inmate Trust Fund balance.

Family or friends order approved products separately. SecurePak orders do not count toward the inmate’s weekly traditional-commissary allowance.

SecurePak rules families should check
Rule Official detail Practical effect
Weekly package value Up to $100 in SecurePak products per inmate per week. Do not place multiple orders that exceed the combined weekly cap.
Debt balance An inmate with a debt balance on the trust account cannot receive a SecurePak. Only the inmate can release debt information; TCSO will not disclose the judiciary-account balance publicly.
Delivery estimate Approximately 10–14 days after processing. Confirm custody before ordering because transfer or release can affect delivery.
Payment U.S.-address credit/debit card, qualifying prepaid card, cashier’s check or money order. Card refunds can take up to 30 days to return to the original card.

Property and money release

How to collect a Travis County inmate’s property

Booking property such as keys, identification, wallet and jewelry is sealed in a valuable bag. Clothing is stored separately for release or transfer.

Ask the inmate to authorize release The inmate must sign the property-release form before the recipient arrives.
Confirm which facility holds the property Use the live search or call 512-854-4180 before driving to Austin or Del Valle.
Bring valid government photo ID Property is not released without acceptable identification.
Expect an all-or-nothing valuable bag The sealed valuables bag cannot be opened for selection of individual items. The entire bag must be released.
Handle money as a separate release when applicable An inmate can authorize a specified amount of stored money, but facility-specific money-release hours apply.
Contact the arresting agency about missing property TCSO directs missing-property claims to the agency that made the arrest.
Property and money release hours
Location Property release Money or special release

Medical and mental health

How families report medical, medication or self-harm concerns

Possible self-harm or immediate mental-health danger

Call 512-854-9889 immediately, 24 hours a day.

Non-emergency family mental-health information

Submit the Sheriff’s online Inmate Mental Health Form. If the form cannot be completed, call 512-854-5356.

What the mental-health team provides

  • Mental-health screening for every person at Central Booking.
  • Ongoing assessment and safe-housing review during custody.
  • Psychiatrist and nurse-practitioner medication services.
  • Psychology, counseling, clinical social work and crisis support.
  • Coordination with courts and community agencies for serious mental illness or medical needs.
  • Referral to Austin/Travis County Integral Care for continuing treatment after release when appropriate.

Medication and medical-information rules

Do not bring medication unless jail medical staff contacts you
The onsite pharmacy supplies most medications
An active prescription may be continued after intake review
Medical staff need inmate consent before discussing protected health information
24/7 nursing staff are available inside the system
Complex cases may use outside community specialists
Privacy expectation: Family concern is important, but medical staff cannot disclose protected health information until the inmate signs the required consent. Provide useful information without expecting an immediate clinical report in return.

PREA sexual-abuse and harassment reporting

TCSO states that it has zero tolerance for sexual abuse and sexual harassment and investigates reported incidents administratively and/or criminally.

How an inmate can report

Tell an officer, staff member, volunteer or contractor; submit an Inmate Request or grievance; call the jail’s toll-free PREA hotline; or call SAFE Alliance confidentially.

How an outside person can report

Complete a PREA form at Visitation or use TCSO’s online PREA reporting form on behalf of an inmate.

Immediate danger: The inmate should tell staff immediately. A person outside facing an active emergency should call 911 instead of waiting for an online-form response.
Court, records and attorney

How to find a Travis County criminal case and court date

The inmate roster answers current custody. The court portal answers which case is pending, where it is filed and what events or documents appear on the docket.

Copy every cause number from the inmate result A single booking may include multiple felony, misdemeanor or out-of-county matters.
Open the public court portal Search by cause number when available; it is more precise than a name search.
Separate felony and misdemeanor records The District Clerk maintains adult felony records. The County Clerk handles misdemeanor records.
Check the criminal court docket Review the court, hearing date, time and case activity. Recheck near the appearance date because settings can change.
Use release paperwork or counsel as confirmation TCSO says a released person receives paperwork containing the court date; an attorney can also confirm it.
Do not confuse court payments with bond Fines, fees, restitution, pretrial fees and cash bond are separate transactions with different offices and rules.

Education, treatment and re-entry programs in Travis County custody

TCSO’s inmate programs are voluntary rather than court-mandated. The inmate must use the housing-unit kiosk to review offerings, request enrollment and complete eligibility screening.

Programming that supports physical, emotional and behavioral health.

Voluntary services for people beginning to address addiction and related behavior.

Release, transfer and pickup checks

Cash or surety bond was posted Release still requires jail verification, paperwork, property return and clearance of every hold.
Personal bond was approved The court may impose conditions. Obtain and follow the written release paperwork.
Roster says no bond information Wait for magistrate or court action; do not pay an unsolicited caller claiming to set a private bond.
The inmate disappeared from search Call to determine whether release or transfer occurred and identify the receiving agency.
Property is needed for release TCSO may arrange release of valuables at any hour when necessary to secure the inmate’s release.
Family is planning pickup Keep transportation flexible and wait for confirmation that the person has physically exited.
Before another deposit or package: Recheck custody and location. Trust-fund, phone, SecurePak and mail activity may not transfer cleanly to another jail or prison system.
