Washoe County Booking Lookup: Current Custody, Bail, Visits and Court Help
Washoe County’s public inmate roster refreshes approximately every 15 minutes, but a name on the screen is only the beginning. Families still need to know whether bail has been set, which court controls the case, how long release may take, and which account or address is used for visits, calls, mail and commissary.
This guide combines the important Sheriff, court, public-defense, medical, victim-notification and re-entry rules in one place. Use the official portal only for the live search or transaction that cannot be completed on this page.

Start with the system that matches the person’s custody
Use the Sheriff’s current inmate search. It is intended for in-custody detainees at the county facility.
Use the Nevada Department of Corrections locator after a sentenced person leaves county custody.
Use the federal BOP or ICE locator when a federal agency rather than Washoe County controls custody.
How to run a Washoe County jail inmate search
How to interpret the Washoe County custody result
The public result is an operational jail record, not a final criminal-history report. A booking may include several charges, courts, bail lines or holds.
| Field or status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Booking number | The detention identifier connected with the current booking. | Use it for calls, SmartInmate, personal mail, deposits and court or bail questions. |
| Charge | The allegation entered for custody and court processing. | Check the controlling court because the filed charge or disposition can later change. |
| Court | The justice, municipal or district court associated with the matter. | Select this exact court when researching the case or making an authorized online cash-bail payment. |
| Bail amount | An amount set by a judge after prompt review. | Verify every case and hold; Washoe County no longer treats the charge alone as automatic bail. |
| No bail / hold | The court or another agency may require continued detention. | Ask which case or agency controls release and when the next hearing occurs. |
| Pending release | Release processing may be underway but the person may still be inside. | Call before arranging pickup; bail release can take up to eight hours. |
| Record disappears | The person may have been released or transferred because the search focuses on current custody. | Call with the booking number and ask which agency received custody. |

Washoe County bail payment, release timing and scam protection
Bail is controlled by the judge and court assigned to each case. The detention facility cannot recommend a bail company.
U.S. currency; qualifying certified or cashier’s check; qualifying postal money order; or an accepted bail-agent bond unless the order is cash-only.
A check or money order must be payable to the court hearing the case, not generically to the jail.
The Sheriff says release after bail can take up to eight hours.
