Sonoma County Booking Lookup: Custody, Bail, Court Dates, Visits and Jail Services
If someone has been arrested in Sonoma County, the official Sheriff search is useful for much more than confirming a name. A current record can show the booking number, arresting agency, date booked, jail facility, charges, bail information, criminal case number and scheduled court dates.
This guide brings the practical jail rules into one place so you do not have to open a dozen county pages. Find the person first, then use the sections below to understand the record, schedule a visit, send approved mail, add commissary or communication funds, check the next court appearance, and handle a missing or recently released record.

Choose the fastest way to locate someone in Sonoma County custody
Enter the person’s last name in the Sheriff search. Use the booking information, age and arresting agency to identify the correct record.
Use the booking-number field. This is the most useful identifier because the same number is also needed for inmate mail and many account services.
The official search only covers current Sonoma County Jail custody. Recent intake, release, transfer or a different jurisdiction can explain a missing result.
How to run a Sonoma County Jail inmate search correctly
What a Sonoma County inmate record tells you
| Field | What it means | What you should do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Booking number | The jail identifier attached to the current booking. | Save it for mail, phone calls, deposit questions and identity verification. |
| Arresting agency | The law-enforcement agency associated with the arrest. | Useful when a new arrest has not yet appeared or when you need the arrest report. |
| Date booked | When the person was entered into Sonoma County Jail custody. | Use it to distinguish a current arrest from an older booking. |
| Facility | The detention facility currently associated with the record, such as MADF. | Use the facility code and correct location for mail or visitation planning. |
| Charge | The penal, vehicle, health-and-safety or other statutory allegation attached to the case. | Treat it as an allegation and use the court process to follow later changes. |
| Case number | The Sonoma Superior Court criminal case identifier. | Use it when checking court calendars or requesting criminal records. |
| Bail amount | The amount presently displayed for that case, when bail is available. | Check every listed case before assuming that one payment allows release. |
| No bail | The particular case is not displaying a releasable dollar bail amount. | Do not assume a bail-bond payment can resolve it; check the court status. |
| Calendar date | A scheduled court date and courtroom may be displayed directly in the jail result. | Recheck the Superior Court daily calendar because courtroom assignments can change. |

Sonoma County jail locations: MADF vs North County Detention Facility
Santa Rosa, CA 95403
Phone: 707-565-1400
Opened in 1991, MADF is a medium/maximum-security direct-supervision facility that houses both pretrial and sentenced incarcerated persons.
Santa Rosa, CA 95403
Phone: 707-565-1400
NCDF is north of Santa Rosa near Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport. The Sheriff identifies it as part of the county detention system.
How to get to MADF
Take Exit 491B for Bicentennial Way East/Sonoma County Administration Center, merge onto Bicentennial Way, then turn right onto Ventura Avenue. MADF is on the right past the apartments.
Take the Hopper Avenue exit, turn left on Hopper, continue toward Cleveland Avenue, turn right on Piner Road, left on Range Avenue, left on Bicentennial Way and then right on Ventura Avenue.
Directions to NCDF
NCDF is off Airport Boulevard, about seven miles northwest of downtown Santa Rosa. From US 101, use the Airport Boulevard exit and turn onto Ordinance Road shortly before the airport. The visitor parking lot is in front of the facility on the left and does not require a permit.
You found the inmate—choose the next action
You will need it for mail and it is the most reliable identifier when calling the facility.
A person can have multiple cases, and one no-bail case can affect release even if another case shows a dollar amount.
Personal visits are not walk-in. Call during the county’s scheduling window and book in advance.
Ordinary personal mail goes through Pigeonly; legal and certain publisher mail goes directly to the facility.
Commissary funds and communication funds are separate systems.
Start with the court date shown in the inmate result and recheck the daily criminal calendar before the hearing.
How to understand bail on a Sonoma County inmate record
Sonoma County’s inmate detail page can list a separate bail amount for each criminal case. This is important because the person may have more than one case at the same time.
The current inmate record is displaying a bail amount for that specific case. Do not assume it covers every other listed case.
That case is not displaying a standard releasable amount. Court action may be required before release can occur.
Do not invent the amount or rely on a third-party bail site. Call the jail and check the criminal case.
Before you pay anyone
Sonoma County criminal bail schedule
Sonoma Superior Court publishes a Criminal Bail Schedule. The schedule is a court reference, while the current inmate record reflects what is presently associated with the person’s actual case. For a real person, rely on the live booking and court status rather than calculating bail from a general schedule yourself.
