Harris County, TX Jail Inmate Search & Roster 2026

Harris County, Texas · Houston custody and family action guide

Harris County Booking Lookup: SPN, Jail Location, Bond, Visits and Release

A Harris County inmate search is more than typing a name. The result may place the person at a downtown Houston jail, the Joint Processing Center or a contract facility in Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi—and that location changes the correct visitation, money, mail and telephone procedure.

This all-in-one guide explains the live search fields, facility codes, charges, bond, court settings, visits, remote video, Access Corrections, digital mail, phone accounts, property release, medical-care concerns, complaints, transfer and family support.

HCSO scam and identity warning: HCSO says it will never demand cash or bail payment over the telephone. Hang up on suspicious callers and independently call 713-221-6000. A matching name or charge does not prove identity or guilt; verify the SPN, date of birth, booking and case information.
Search options

SPN, SSN, surname, surname + first name, or surname + DOB.

Inmate information

713-755-5300

Release location

Facts reviewed

Choose the best lookup

Use the right Harris County search field

A
I know the SPN

Use the SPN alone. This is the cleanest person-level search and avoids same-name confusion.

B
I know only the name

Use at least three surname characters. Add the first name or birth date only if several people appear.

C
I have a case or incident number

Use Offense Inquiry to check custody, release information, the next setting and case disposition.

Privacy tip: Although the official search permits a nine-digit SSN-only search, do not place a Social Security number into third-party inmate websites or share it in messages. Prefer SPN, name and birth date when possible.

Harris County jail facility codes and outsourced housing

The facility code is not a minor detail. It determines where to visit, which telephone provider to use and where deposits or mail must go.

Current facilities listed by the HCSO search page
Code Facility and address Contact or action
JA14 700 N. San Jacinto, Houston, TX 77002 — Joint Processing Center 713-755-5300; also the published release-exit location.
JA07 701 or 711 N. San Jacinto, Houston, TX 77002 701: 346-286-2840; 711: 346-286-2998.
JA04 1307 Baker Street, Houston, TX 77002 346-286-2600.
JA09 1200 Baker Street, Houston, TX 77002 346-286-2211.
XL55 / XL56 LaSalle Correctional Center, 15976 US-165, Olla, LA 71465 318-495-6200; contract-jail rules apply.
X281 / X282 / X283 Jefferson County Downtown Jail, 1001 Pearl Street, Beaumont, TX 77701 409-434-4653.
CT55 / CT56 Tallahatchie County Correctional, 19351 US Highway 49 North, Tutwiler, MS 38963 662-345-6567.
NP55 / NP56 / NP57 Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, 299 Edwina Drive, Natchitoches, LA 71457 318-357-9300.
Do not use the downtown-Houston instructions for an outsourced inmate: Check the code immediately before scheduling a visit, opening a call account or sending funds. Transfers can change the provider and erase assumptions made from an older result.

How to decode a Harris County inmate result

Result fields translated into next actions
Field What it means What to do
SPN Person-level identifier used by Harris County systems. Use it for care concerns, mail, deposits, visits and Offense Inquiry.
Booking number/date The current intake event and when it began. Separate a new booking from an older case or record.
Facility code The present HCSO or contract housing location. Use the correct provider and visitation process for that code.
Charge/offense An accusation or booked offense, not a conviction. Check the cause number and court docket for later changes.
Cause number The Harris County criminal case identifier. Use it for the next setting, disposition, clerk questions and bond.
Bond The security or release status associated with a case. Review every case and hold before paying.
Next setting The scheduled court date and time available in county data. Recheck close to the hearing because settings can change.
Release information A projected, pending or completed custody event. Confirm physical release before pickup.
Correct-person rule: Match at least two reliable identifiers—such as name plus birth date, name plus SPN, or name plus cause number—before sending money or making public claims.
Troubleshooting ladder

No Harris County inmate appears? Follow this order

Arrest was very recent The person may still be in police custody, medical screening, identification or Joint Processing Center intake.
Name may differ Search only the first three or more surname characters, then try a maiden name, suffix, spacing or hyphen variation.
Arresting agency is outside Harris County Check the actual county, municipal jail, TDCJ or federal system.
Record disappeared after appearing The person may have released, moved to court, transferred to a contract facility or entered state custody.
You have a case number Use Offense Inquiry even when the person is no longer in jail; it can show the next setting and disposition.
You still cannot locate the person Call 713-755-5300 with full name, birth date, arrest time, arresting agency and any incident number.
Telephone script “I am trying to confirm whether [full booked name], date of birth [date], is in Harris County custody. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. I have [SPN, cause or incident number]. Can you confirm the facility code or whether the person released or transferred?”

What happens during Harris County intake and housing?

Processing and identity Booking information is entered and the person receives an SPN or is connected to an existing SPN.
Medical and mental-health screening HCSO says inmates are screened at the Inmate Processing Center, checked for communicable disease and given an opportunity to provide prescription information.
Housing assignment The inmate is placed in an HCSO facility or, when applicable, later moved to contract housing.
Court and bond action Charges, cause numbers, judicial decisions and other holds determine whether release is possible.
Release or transfer The person may leave through the Joint Processing Center, transfer to another jail or await TDCJ transport after sentencing.
Medication rule: Families cannot bring prescription drugs directly to an inmate. HCSO states that pharmaceuticals are filled through its full-service pharmacy.

Bond types in plain language
Type How it works Critical limitation
Cash bond Money is deposited to secure the defendant’s appearance. Confirm every active case before paying.
Surety bond An approved bonding company executes the bond and charges a fee. The fee and collateral are private-company terms; read the agreement.
Personal bond Release is based on the defendant’s promise to appear without security. A judge or magistrate must approve it.
Pretrial release bond A judge considers information from Pretrial Services and may impose conditions. Pretrial Services cannot independently grant release; judicial approval is required.
Confirm the person and SPN Do not rely on information supplied only by a caller.
List every cause number and bond One payable case does not cancel a no-bond case or another jurisdiction’s hold.
Verify the payment path Use 700 N. San Jacinto, AllPaid or an approved bonding company—not an unsolicited payment request.
Save receipts and transaction references Record the payer, amount, date, case and confirmation number.
Confirm physical release separately Bond acceptance can be followed by identification, paperwork, housing movement, property return or transfer.
HCSO will not demand bail by telephone: If a caller claims a deputy requires immediate cash, cryptocurrency, gift cards or peer-to-peer payment, hang up and call 713-221-6000.

Court and offense inquiry

Find custody, release, next setting and case disposition

HCSO Offense Inquiry is designed to answer whether a defendant is currently in the Harris County Jail, when release is expected, and case details such as the next setting date/time and disposition.

Offense Inquiry search inputs
Input Use it when Accuracy tip
Offense / incident number You have the arresting law-enforcement agency’s case number. Do not confuse it with the court cause number.
SPN You found the person through the jail search. Usually the fastest way to connect jail and court information.
CDI code 002 or 003 County data or paperwork supplies the code. Enter it exactly as displayed.
Cause number You have the Harris County criminal case number. Search every listed cause number separately.
Copy SPN and all cause numbers A single booking can involve multiple misdemeanor or felony cases.
Search each case separately Check the next setting, time, disposition and release information.
Compare jail and court results The jail record shows custody; the court record may show later amendments, dismissal, plea, trial or sentence.
Recheck before the hearing Settings can change through continuance, transport, attorney request or judicial order.
Do not ask jail staff for legal advice Use the attorney or court clerk for interpretation of filings and strategy.
Presumption of innocence: HCSO’s legal-concepts page states that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty and the State bears the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Property release, money release and inmate pickup

Go to the inmate’s current facility between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Bring valid government photo identification to the Visitor Control Center.
Ask the deputy to begin the authorization The inmate must approve the property release.

Claim it within 24 hours HCSO states that the form becomes invalid if the property is not claimed within 24 hours.
Required for pickup: Valid government photo ID and a completed Property Release Form.

Released-inmate pickup

HCSO states that inmates being released exit the Joint Processing Center at 700 N. San Jacinto Street, Houston, TX 77002.

How to report medical care, mental health, food, sanitation or visitation concerns

Harris County Jail inmate search FAQs

How do I search for an inmate in Harris County Jail?

Use the HCSO Find Someone in Jail form. Search by SPN alone, nine-digit SSN alone, last name of at least three characters, last and first name, or last name and date of birth.

What number do I call for Harris County inmate information?

Call 713-755-5300 with the full booked name, birth date, SPN and known case information.

What is an SPN?

SPN means System Person Number. Save it because Harris County uses it across jail and justice-system services.

Why is someone not appearing in the search?

The person may still be processing, booked under another name, released, transferred or held by another agency. Retry with fewer fields and confirm the arresting agency.

What are the general visitation hours?

Monday has no visitation. Tuesday through Sunday, HCSO publishes 1 p.m.–5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.–10 p.m., with the last scheduled visit beginning at 9:30 p.m.

How long is an in-person visit?

Ordinary scheduled visits last 20 minutes. Arrive 30 minutes before the appointment for ID verification.

Where can a bond be posted?

HCSO accepts cash or surety bonds at 700 N. San Jacinto Street. Approved online cash bail is available through AllPaid, and personal/pretrial bonds require a judge.

How do I send inmate funds?

For inmates housed in Harris County facilities, use Access Corrections online/app, a kiosk, 866-345-1884 or Cash Pay Today. Verify location first because contract facilities use different systems.

What is the weekly commissary limit?

HCSO states that eligible inmates with sufficient funds may spend up to $150 weekly, subject to disciplinary and medical restrictions.

Can an inmate receive an incoming phone call?

No. Inmates place outgoing collect calls. The recipient may set up Securus AdvancePay at 800-844-6591.

Where do I mail a personal letter?

Since June 16, 2025, personal mail uses the current Securus Digital Mail Center address displayed on HCSO’s mail page, not the jail’s physical address. Legal mail and publications use separate procedures.

Where are released inmates picked up?

HCSO says released inmates exit at the Joint Processing Center, 700 N. San Jacinto Street, Houston, TX 77002.

How do I report an urgent mental-health concern?

Call 713-755-5300, stay on the line and follow the medical-care prompts. Call 911 for an immediate emergency outside the jail.

How do I complain about an HCSO employee?

Call Internal Affairs at 713-274-5003. Its office is at 5749 South Loop East and lists weekday hours of 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
