Indian River County Booking Lookup: Current Inmates, Bond, Visits & Release Help

If someone was arrested in Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fellsmere or elsewhere in Indian River County, the Sheriff’s Office inmate search should be the first place you check. The live system can search current and historical booking records by name, booking dates, release dates, booking number and date of birth.

Finding the record is only the first step. This guide explains what the booking result means and brings the important local jail rules into one place—including bond payment, first appearance, video visits, TouchPay deposits, commissary, mail, medical contacts, property pickup, court records, victim help and re-entry services.

Verify the person before acting. Indian River County’s system includes historical booking records as well as current inmates. A matching name does not automatically mean the person is presently in jail. Check the custody label, booking date, release date, booking number and date of birth before paying bond, sending money or making a public claim about someone.

60-second answer

Use the inmate search differently depending on what you already know

1
You only know the name

Enter the last name first. If several people appear, add the first name or date of birth rather than filling every field at once.

2
You have a booking number

Use the booking number because it is the most useful identifier for mail, property, deposits and communication services.

3
You need today’s bookings

The official search page shows today’s and yesterday’s bookings separately, with current custody or release information where available.

Important search limitation: Indian River County states that sealed or expunged records, records before August 1, 2005, and records for people who were under 18 at the time of booking are not returned by the public inmate search.

Choose what you need to do

Go straight to the task instead of opening multiple government pages.

Official lookup workflow

How to search the Indian River County Jail roster correctly

The Sheriff’s Office inmate search is broader than a simple “who is in jail today” list. It provides detailed arrest history and lets you narrow the database with several fields.

Open the official inmate search Go to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search. The live page is the correct place to perform the final custody lookup.
Start with last name Search the surname first. This is especially useful if you are unsure how a middle name, suffix or first name was entered at booking.
Add first name only if needed Narrow a long result list using the person’s first name.
Use date of birth to separate same-name people The search supports date of birth and this can prevent mistaken identification when common names appear.
Use booking date for a recent arrest If the arrest happened on a known day, the booking-date field can reduce unrelated historical matches.
Use release date for an older custody check The search can also filter by release date, which is useful when determining whether an older booking has ended.
Use booking number when you already have it The booking number is particularly useful because the jail also requires it for inmate mail and several other services.
Confirm the custody label A historical booking result may show a released person. Do not assume a name in the database means the person is presently incarcerated.
Full legal name
Possible alternate or maiden surname
Date of birth
Approximate arrest date
Booking number, if known
Arresting agency, if known

How to read an Indian River County inmate or booking result

Read the result as a booking and custody record—not as a final statement about guilt. Charges can be amended, dismissed or resolved later in court.

Indian River County inmate-search fields explained
Result detail What it tells you What to do with it
Incarcerated / custody status Whether the Sheriff’s Office currently shows the person as incarcerated. Confirm by phone when pickup, bond or urgent visitation depends on current custody.
Released The booking remains in history but the person is no longer shown as currently incarcerated for that booking. Use the court record if you need the continuing criminal-case status.
Booking number Identifier assigned to the booking. Save it for inmate mail, deposit accounts, records and other jail services.
Booking date When the person was entered into the jail booking system. Compare it with the known arrest timeline.
Release date When that booking ended, when a release date is shown. Do not confuse an old booking with a new arrest.
Bond amount Bond currently associated with the booking or charge when shown. Verify all charges and holds before paying.
No Bond A payable bond is not currently displayed for that matter. The inmate may need first appearance or another court ruling before release is possible.
Disposition The system may show a release or sentence-related notation. Use the Clerk’s court database to understand the underlying case event.
Bookings count How many bookings the system associates with that subject. Open the correct date rather than assuming the newest search result represents an older case.
Identity rule: Before posting bond or sending money, match at least two strong details—such as full name plus DOB, or name plus booking number.
Troubleshooting

No Indian River County inmate found? Follow this decision path

The arrest happened very recently Booking and intake may still be underway. Retry the search and call Inmate Records if the situation is urgent.
The name may be recorded differently Search only the last name. Then test a maiden name, hyphen variation, suffix or alternate spelling.
The person was under 18 at booking The Sheriff’s Office says subjects younger than 18 at the time of booking are omitted from this public search.
The case is sealed or expunged The public inmate search does not return sealed or expunged records.
You are looking for a very old booking Records before August 1, 2005 are not returned in this search.
The person may already be released Search historical records using a release date or check the criminal court case instead.
The arrest happened in another county An Indian River County incident does not always mean custody is at this jail. Verify the arresting agency and receiving facility.
The person may have transferred State prison, another county, a treatment placement or another agency may now control custody.
Useful phone script “I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [DOB], was booked into Indian River County Jail around [date]. I have [booking number if known]. Can you confirm whether this person is presently in custody, released or transferred?”

What happens after someone is arrested in Indian River County?

Booking and identification The person is processed into the county jail system and receives booking and inmate identifiers that later appear in the search.
Money is placed in the inmate account Money taken into the jail with the inmate is receipted and deposited into the individual’s jail account unless it is being held as evidence.
Bond status is determined Some arrests already have a bond. If no bond has been set, the Sheriff’s Office tells families that the inmate generally waits for the judge at first appearance.
First appearance The Clerk states that people arrested during the previous 24 hours generally appear before a judge at 8:30 a.m. at the Indian River County Courthouse.
Housing, court or release The person may remain in jail awaiting court, post bond, be released under a court order, serve a county sentence or later transfer.
Family shortcut: If the inmate search shows No Bond, do not immediately assume bond will never be available. Check after first appearance or call the Clerk because the judge may need to set or modify release conditions.

How to post bond at Indian River County Jail

The Sheriff’s Office publishes several ways to pay bond. Before using any method, verify the inmate, booking number, total amount and whether every charge is bondable.

Indian River County bond payment methods
Method County rule What you need to know
U.S. currency / cash Accepted for bond. Cash of $10,000 or more requires completion of an IRS form provided by the agency.
Cashier’s check Accepted Monday–Friday during banking hours after verification. Funds are verified for legitimacy. Amounts of $10,000 or more require the IRS form.
Building K kiosk Money kiosk is located in the visitation area. Select the bond function rather than an inmate canteen deposit.
TouchPay online Select BOND, not Canteen. Use facility locator #232960 and the inmate’s identifying information.
TouchPay telephone 866-232-1899 Have the inmate name, commissary/inmate number and facility locator #232960 available.
Registered bail bond agent The bond agent must be registered in Indian River County. An out-of-county or out-of-state agent may need to coordinate a transfer bond through a local registered agent.

Before paying bond

Confirm the exact inmate Compare name, DOB and booking number.
Check every listed charge A person may have more than one case or hold.
Verify whether bond has actually been set If it has not, the inmate may need to appear before the judge.
Select BOND in TouchPay The county specifically distinguishes bond payment from canteen/inmate-account deposits.
Use facility locator #232960 This is the Indian River County TouchPay locator published by the Sheriff’s Office.
Save the confirmation Keep the receipt or transaction number and the inmate’s booking information.
Wait for release processing Payment does not mean the inmate walks out immediately. Jail processing and other holds may still apply.
Bond versus canteen: TouchPay is used for both functions. Choosing the wrong transaction type can send money to an inmate account instead of the bond payment.

Where your deposit may go before commissary

Booking fee first Deposited money first satisfies the inmate’s intake/booking fee.
Outstanding jail debt next After the booking fee, the Sheriff’s Office states that 75% of the deposit is applied toward outstanding debt such as daily subsistence fees or previous charges.
Remaining funds become available The money left after those deductions is available for canteen purchases.
Example: Do not assume a $100 deposit produces $100 in available commissary money. The exact usable amount depends on the inmate’s booking fee and outstanding jail debt.

Canteen schedule and products

Canteen orders are available to inmates housed at the jail. The Sheriff’s Office says deliveries are made weekly throughout the facility from Tuesday morning through Friday evening.

Approved clothing, hygiene products, snacks and other permitted items may be purchased based on available inmate-account funds. The jail also supports iCare packages through its contracted service.

Medical & HIPAA

How to report an inmate’s medical condition or medication

Indian River County publishes a specific medical-information process for family members. This is different from calling the jail and asking staff to relay a message.

Share health or medication information

Leave a message on the medical-information line:

772-978-6372

The Sheriff’s Office says calls are reviewed and returned within 48 hours, Monday through Friday.

General jail concern

Medical staff cannot deliver personal messages to inmates. Other jail concerns should go to the jail switchboard:

772-978-6114

Medical privacy: Family members cannot automatically receive an inmate’s medical information. An active Release of Information (ROI) must be on file naming the person who is requesting protected health information.

How to receive medical information

Ask the inmate to complete an ROI Medical staff cannot complete this request on behalf of the outside person.
Wait until the ROI is active The requesting person’s name must appear on the medical authorization.
Call the medical-information line Leave the specific health-information request at 772-978-6372.
Go to the jail when instructed The Sheriff’s Office requires the authorized person to come to 4055 41st Avenue with valid state identification to receive the requested health information.

Health services provided without charge

Chronic-illness care
Follow-up care
Intake screenings
Medical emergencies
Mental-health services
Referred illnesses

The Sheriff’s Office states that inmates have the right to medical care and will not be refused treatment simply because they lack funds.

Medication restrictions families should know

Indian River County publishes a list of controlled medications that are not allowed to enter the facility, including many benzodiazepines, stimulants and opioid medications. Examples listed by the jail include Xanax, Adderall, Ambien, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, fentanyl patches, hydrocodone, morphine, oxycodone, Ritalin and Tylenol with Codeine.

MAT exception: The corrections page specifically lists Methadone and Subutex (buprenorphine) as approved medication-assisted-treatment medications that may enter the facility under its medical process.
Property pickup

How to collect property from an Indian River County Jail inmate

Property cannot simply be collected by arriving at the jail. The inmate first authorizes a named person through the jail’s Smart Communications process.

The inmate completes a property release The inmate identifies the exact person who will receive the property.
The inmate notifies that person The named recipient should not arrive before the authorization has been completed.
Call Property for an appointment Contact 772-978-6363.
Go during published pickup hours Property pickup is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Bring valid photo identification The Sheriff’s Office gives passport or driver’s license as examples.
30-day deadline: Indian River County states that property is discarded after 30 days following release. Do not leave unclaimed property indefinitely.

Available document images

The Clerk states that public viewing is free and does not require registration. Document images are generally available from late 2008, with some earlier documents available case by case.

Not every case is public online. Juvenile, adoption, Baker Act, Marchman Act, tuberculosis, some mental-health matters and other protected case types are excluded. Some probate, family, guardianship and mental-health document images require a registered user or attorney of record.

Indian River County criminal court structure

Felony cases

Circuit Court handles felony charges. The Clerk explains that a county-jail sentence cannot exceed one year; longer incarceration requires state Department of Corrections placement.

Misdemeanor cases

County Court handles misdemeanors and criminal traffic matters that can carry incarceration.

First appearance and missed court

First Appearance occurs at 8:30 a.m. for people arrested during the previous 24 hours. The Clerk also warns that failure to appear for a scheduled felony court date can result in a warrant, forfeiture of posted bond and possible detention without bond after arrest on the failure-to-appear warrant.
