Kaufman County Jail Inmate Search & Roster 2026

Kaufman County, Texas · Live jail roster and family action guide

Kaufman County Booking Lookup: Find Inmates, Charges, Bond, Visits and Court Status

Kaufman County gives families something many Texas counties do not: a dedicated Sheriff-run Current Inmates system. You can search by name, view the current jail population, browse charge descriptions, or check recent activity by number of days.

Finding a name is only the first step. This guide explains what to record from the roster, how to troubleshoot a missing inmate, where to verify bond, which pod determines in-person visitation, how NCIC video visits and calls work, how to fund commissary, how the Longview mail-scanning address works, and where to follow the criminal case.

Identity check first: A roster name or criminal charge does not prove guilt. Compare the inmate’s SO number, booking information, charge, court case and other identifying details before sending money, publishing allegations, traveling to the jail or contacting a bail company.

Fast answer

Use the Kaufman County roster differently depending on what you know

1
You know the inmate’s name

Use the roster’s By name search. Start with the legal booking name and check possible alternate spellings if necessary.

2
You do not know the exact spelling

Use View all inmates and compare the list rather than over-filtering a name search.

3
You know the charge or arrest date

Use By charge description or the Days search to narrow recent jail activity.

Best Kaufman shortcut: Once you find the correct inmate, save the SO number/local ID. Kaufman County uses that identifier for inmate mail and many jail-service transactions.

What do you need to do after finding the inmate?

Jump directly to the task rather than searching multiple jail-directory websites.

What the Kaufman County roster information means

Turn the roster result into the next action
Information What it tells you What to do with it
SO number The Sheriff’s local identifier for the inmate. Save it for mail, inmate records and jail-service questions.
Booking information Connects the inmate with the current jail admission. Compare it with the known arrest date to avoid confusing an older booking.
Charge description The allegation associated with the booking or case. Use county court records to see the later formal case status.
Bond A bond condition or amount associated with a case when available. Confirm every charge and hold before paying.
Housing/pod The inmate’s jail housing assignment when available. The pod matters because Kaufman in-person visitation days differ for A/C and B Pod males.
Federal/USMS status The inmate is being held under a federal/U.S. Marshals arrangement rather than only a local county case. Use the separate federal visitation schedule and confirm which agency controls release.
No longer listed The person may have been released, transferred or otherwise removed from the current roster. Call the jail and continue following the court case separately.
Charge is not conviction: A jail booking describes the reason for detention or allegation at that stage. Check the court record for filings, amendments, dismissals, pleas, judgments and final disposition.
Troubleshooting

No Kaufman County inmate result? Follow this decision path

The arrest happened recently The person may still be in agency custody, transport or booking. Retry the roster and call the jail.
The name search returns nothing Use View All Inmates, shorten the name search and try alternate legal or former names.
You know the charge Browse the roster’s charge-description option to identify inmates connected with that offense description.
You know approximately when the arrest occurred Use the roster’s Days function to examine activity over a recent number of days.
The inmate was listed earlier They may have bonded out, been released, moved to another county, transferred to state custody or entered federal custody.
A court case exists but no current inmate record appears The person may be out on bond. Follow the court case rather than assuming the prosecution ended.
A city police department made the arrest Ask whether transfer to Kaufman County has completed or whether the person remains in another local holding facility.
You need an older jail record Use the Sheriff’s Inmate Records or Open Records process rather than expecting the live roster to function as a permanent archive.
Useful phone script “I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], is currently in Kaufman County custody. The arrest may have happened on [date] through [agency]. Can you confirm current custody, the SO number, bond status and whether the person has been released or transferred?”

What happens after a Kaufman County arrest?

The exact order depends on the arresting agency, court schedule, medical needs and charge, but families can think about the process in a simple sequence.

Arrest and transport The arresting agency processes or transports the individual toward the Kaufman County detention system.
Booking and SO number Jail staff create the local custody record and assign the Sheriff’s identifier used by the detention system.
Property, screening and classification Personal property is secured and the inmate is screened before assignment to an appropriate housing area.
Magistration and bond A magistrate addresses the accusations, rights and release/bond conditions as required by Texas procedure.
Housing and services Once housed, the inmate may use approved calling, commissary, mail and visitation services subject to jail restrictions.
Release, continued detention or transfer The inmate may post bond, receive another form of authorized release, remain pending court or transfer to another agency.
Why the roster can change quickly: A person can move from booking to bond or another agency before relatives finish arranging a visit. Always refresh the roster and call before driving to the jail.

Bond and release

How to verify a Kaufman County Jail bond before paying

A bond decision should start with the inmate’s complete custody picture. One listed dollar amount can be misleading if the inmate has another case, hold or agency matter.

Open the current inmate record Write down the inmate’s SO number, every charge and any bond information shown.
Call the jail to verify the current status Ask whether the amount shown remains current and whether another case or hold would prevent release.
Identify the court handling the case Use Kaufman County Court Search to connect the jail booking with the court proceeding.
Use a licensed company if purchasing a surety bond Kaufman County’s Bail Bond Board licenses and regulates bail-bond companies under Texas law and publishes an approved company list.
Confirm the fee and written agreement A surety bond company’s fee is different from the face amount of a cash bond. Get the terms in writing before paying.
Save every receipt Keep the case number, SO number, bond paperwork, payment receipt and company information.
Confirm release separately Do not assume the inmate is physically outside the detention facility immediately after a bond is accepted.
Fraud check: Do not send money because an unknown caller says an inmate will be released immediately. Independently verify the inmate, charge and bond through the jail or court and use Kaufman County’s approved bond-company information.

Kaufman County Bail Bond Board

Bail Bond Administrator

Phone: 972-932-4337

The Board licenses and regulates companies offering bail bonds in Kaufman County.

What the Board handles

Licensing, renewals, local rules, approved company lists and complaints concerning licensed bail-bond companies.

2026 local-rule note: Kaufman County’s Bail Bond Board publishes notice of local-rule changes effective June 1, 2026. For a bond being posted now, use the current approved-company list and current local rules rather than an old directory.

Pretrial Bond Supervision after release

Kaufman County’s Pretrial Bond Supervision Department monitors defendants who are released under qualifying court-ordered supervision. Its mission includes promoting court appearance, compliance with release conditions and public safety.

Pretrial Bond Supervision Department
1906 E. US Hwy 175
Kaufman, TX 75142

Phone: 469-376-4773

Fax: 469-595-0689

Important: Pretrial Bond Supervision does not mean every jail inmate qualifies for release. A judicial officer determines release conditions; the department supervises defendants when the court places them under its program.
Official in-person schedule

Kaufman County Jail visitation by sex, housing pod and USMS status

Kaufman County does not use one universal in-person visiting block. The schedule depends on whether the inmate is female, a male assigned to A/C Pod, a male assigned to B Pod, or a federal U.S. Marshals detainee.

Official Kaufman County Sheriff’s in-person visitation schedule
Housing/group Day Time Latest full-visit sign-in
Female inmates Tuesday 7 p.m.–10 p.m. 9:30 p.m.

Official in-person visit rules

25-minute visits

Each regular in-person visit is 25 minutes.

Two per week

An inmate may receive no more than two 25-minute in-person visits per week.

One per visitation day

An inmate may receive only one in-person visit on a scheduled visitation day.

Every adult visitor must show valid photo identification
Accepted examples include driver’s license, state ID or passport
Wear shirt, shoes, pants or appropriate shorts
Provocative or revealing clothing is prohibited
Visits are non-contact
Follow every lawful direction from visitation staff
Late visitors are not added to the final group: The Sheriff states that lobby staff cannot extend sign-in time or allow late visitors to join the last visitation group. Plan to arrive well before the published 30-minute cutoff.

When can children visit?

Minor children under 17 have more limited visiting days. They must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or legal counsel.

Female inmates

Children may visit during the applicable Saturday visitation period.

Male A & C Pods

Children may visit during the applicable Sunday visitation period.

Male B Pod

Children may visit during the applicable Saturday visitation period.

Call before bringing a child: The published child rule identifies the permitted days, but custody, discipline or housing changes can still affect an individual inmate’s eligibility.
Remote visitation

Kaufman County Jail video visitation through NCIC

Kaufman County uses NCIC Inmate Communications for video visitation. Unlike the pod-specific lobby schedule, the Sheriff’s published remote-video window is much broader.

Every day

Video visitation is published as available Sunday through Saturday.

8 a.m.–10 p.m.

This is the Sheriff’s published daily video-visit availability window.

$0.30 per minute

This is the current rate published on the Sheriff’s visitation page.

No published numerical limit: Kaufman County says there is no limit on the number of video visitations an inmate may receive per day or week, provided the inmate is not restricted from visitation because of a disciplinary case.
Create an NCIC account Use the inmate communication provider’s account system and complete the required account setup.
Select Kaufman County Jail Make sure you are using the correct detention facility rather than another jail that also contracts with NCIC.
Select the correct inmate Compare the name and SO number before paying.
Choose an available visit time The live system controls actual appointment availability within the Sheriff’s general daily window.
Review the cost The Sheriff’s page publishes $0.30 per minute. Confirm the final transaction total before checkout.
Connect early Make sure the device, camera, microphone and internet connection are working before the visit begins.
NCIC customer support

Phone: 1-800-943-2189

Use NCIC support for account, payment and communication-platform problems rather than calling court staff.

Trust fund and commissary

How to send money to a Kaufman County Jail inmate

The Sheriff’s Office uses Tiger Correctional Services for online inmate-account deposits and commissary ordering.

Official Kaufman County inmate-account methods
Method How it works Important rule
Tiger online deposit Deposit electronically to the inmate’s trust-fund account. Confirm the inmate identity and SO number before checkout.
Money order by mail A money order can be sent under the Sheriff’s inmate-account instructions. Complete it exactly as instructed; do not endorse the back.
Money order in person The Sheriff states that money orders can also be received in person. Call before traveling to confirm the current drop-off procedure.
Cash Not accepted for inmate accounts. Do not arrive expecting jail staff to accept cash for the account.

How Kaufman County says to complete a money order

Pay to Order of: inmate name
Purchaser’s Address: sender’s address
Purchaser’s Signature: signature of person buying it
Back of money order: do not endorse
No cash: The Sheriff’s Inmate Services page specifically states that cash is not accepted for inmate accounts.

Ordering commissary instead of depositing money

Kaufman County also links a Tiger Commissary ordering page that allows an approved commissary order to be purchased for a selected inmate. This is different from depositing unrestricted funds to the inmate account.

Mail scanning

Kaufman County Jail mail: personal, legal and medical correspondence

Kaufman County uses an off-site scanning address in Longview for ordinary inmate mail. That is one of the most important details to get right: legal and medical mail do not go through the same scanning address.

Ordinary personal mail
Inmate Name
SO# (Local ID)
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office
PO Box 591
Longview, TX 75606
Legal and medical mail

Legal and medical correspondence must be sent to the facility where the inmate is housed under the Sheriff’s detention-facility mail rules, not to PO Box 591.

Facility: 1900 E US-175, Kaufman, TX 75142

Sheriff mailing address: Drawer 849, Kaufman, Texas

Original personal mail is destroyed after processing: The Sheriff’s current Jail Info page says items sent to the Longview processing address will not be returned or released. After they are processed and delivered electronically to the inmate, the physical items — including pictures — are destroyed.

Personal-mail rules published by Kaufman County

Include the inmate’s name
Include the Sheriff’s Office booking/SO number
Include a complete return address
Paper must fit within 8.5 × 11 inches
Maximum five pages per mailing
Write on the front side only
Maximum one photograph per mailing
Use the jail address for legal/medical correspondence

What happens when you break a scanning rule?

Common Kaufman County mail mistakes
Mistake Published consequence Better approach
More than 5 pages The mailing will not be scanned and is returned to the sender. Split longer correspondence into compliant mailings.
Writing on the back of a page The mail is returned because scanning is front-side only. Use one side of each page.
More than one photo The entire mailing and contents are returned; nothing is scanned. Send no more than one approved photo per mailing.
Legal mail sent to Longview Legal/medical mail is not accepted at the scanning address. Use the facility’s legal/medical mail route.
Book/magazine/newspaper sent to Longview The item is returned rather than processed as personal scanned mail. Use the detention facility’s publication rules and physical-facility route.

NCIC electronic messages and pictures

Kaufman County also promotes NCIC electronic inmate messaging as an alternative to postal personal mail. The Sheriff’s current Jail Info page publishes:

$0.25 message

Published Sheriff’s price for an electronic message.

$0.35 picture/document

Published price for an attached photo or document image.

No published quantity limit

The Sheriff says there is no limit on the number of messages and photos that may be sent through this system.

Privacy reminder: Ordinary jail electronic messaging should not be treated like privileged attorney-client correspondence.
Inmate calls

Kaufman County Jail phone service and current published rates

The Sheriff’s Office uses NCIC Inmate Communications as its inmate communications provider.

Court follow-up

How to connect a Kaufman County jail booking to the criminal case

The jail roster tells you about detention. Kaufman County court records tell you what happened in the prosecution. Follow both when the user needs the full picture.

Kaufman County criminal case routing
Case type Record/court area What to check
Class A or B misdemeanor County Courts at Law / County Clerk Case number, charges, settings, disposition and available court records.
Felony District Court District-court assignment, hearings, motions and disposition.
Bond supervision Pretrial Bond Supervision Conditions imposed after qualifying release.
Selected county-court dockets County Clerk Docket Calls Upcoming selected dockets, while remembering that posted courtesy dockets may not reflect later changes.

County Court at Law docket warning

Kaufman County explains that selected County Court at Law and County Court at Law 2 dockets are posted approximately two weeks before court day, but those web copies are not updated during that period to reflect later court changes.

Do not rely on a two-week-old courtesy docket for travel: Reconfirm the hearing through the actual court close to the scheduled appearance.

Jail staff cannot provide legal strategy. Questions about plea decisions, defenses, evidence, bond modification, dismissal, trial or sentencing should go to the defendant’s attorney or the court, not an inmate-services vendor.

When calling about appointed counsel

Have the defendant’s full legal name
Have the court case number if available
Know which court is handling the case
Know whether the defendant remains in jail or has been released
Health and safety

Kaufman County inmate medical and mental-health concerns

The Sheriff’s Jail Info section identifies Turn Key Health as its medical department provider and provides a separate action for reporting an inmate mental-health issue.

Urgent medical concern

Call the jail at 972-932-4337, identify the inmate by full name and SO number, and clearly state that you are reporting an urgent health concern.

Mental-health concern

The Sheriff maintains a dedicated online mental-health issue reporting route from the Jail Info page.

Medical concern script “I need to report a health concern about [full inmate name], SO number [number]. The concern is [brief factual description]. Please tell me how this information should be routed to Turn Key Health or the appropriate detention medical staff.”
Outside emergency: If the emergency involves someone outside the jail or an immediate public-safety threat, use 911 rather than a routine jail email or web form.
Medication: Do not arrive expecting jail lobby staff to hand a personal prescription directly to an inmate. Call first and ask how the medical department verifies and continues prescribed medication.
Historical records

Current roster vs inmate records vs open-records request

Use the source that matches the record you actually need
You need Best starting point Why
Who is in jail now? Sheriff Current Inmates Built for live/current custody search.
Recent bookings/charges Current Inmates Days/Charges functions Lets users browse roster activity beyond a name search.
Court disposition Kaufman County Court Search Jail records do not replace court records.
Old jail record Sheriff Inmate Records A released inmate may no longer be visible in the live roster.
Specific government document Public Information Act request Formal document requests require enough information for the agency to identify responsive records.

Kaufman County open-records request tips

Kaufman County’s Public Information Act instructions emphasize specificity. For records handled through the Criminal District Attorney’s designated open-records route, include contact information and a specific description of the records.

Full legal name
Date of birth or another identifying detail
Relevant date or date range
Case, SO or booking number if known
Exact record type requested
Your phone, email or mailing address
Better request: “Booking sheet and release record for John Example, DOB 01/01/1990, booking approximately May 12–13, 2026” is more useful than “send me everything about John Example.”

Release and transfer: what families should check before pickup

Bond was paid The person still must complete release processing and clear any other holds.
Inmate disappears from the live roster Call the jail to determine whether the person released or transferred.
Court case remains visible This is normal after release; prosecution and custody status are separate.
Federal/USMS detainee transferred The receiving federal agency or facility may control later visitation, calls and release information.
Transferred to another Texas county Switch to the receiving county’s official jail search and rules.
Sent to TDCJ custody Use Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender search after the state record becomes available.
Pickup planning: Never organize transportation around an estimated release time from an unofficial roster. Confirm completed release through the jail.

Victim and family safety: custody-change monitoring

When a custody change matters for personal safety, do not depend only on periodically refreshing an inmate roster. Texas participates in victim-notification services that may provide custody-status notifications for participating agencies.

Use live custody alerts when available

Register using the inmate’s verified identity so a release or transfer event is less likely to be missed.

Keep a separate safety plan

Automated notification is useful but should never be the only protection when there is a credible threat.

Immediate danger: Call 911. Do not wait for a roster update, court website or automated notification.

Kaufman County jail mistakes that cost families time or money

Searching only by name

The Sheriff’s roster also supports all-inmate, charge and recent-days views. Use them when spelling is uncertain.

Forgetting the SO number

Kaufman County specifically requires the local SO number for personal inmate mail.

Using the wrong visit day

Male A/C Pod, male B Pod, female and federal detainees all have different lobby schedules.

Arriving at the visitation cutoff

The last full-visit sign-in is 30 minutes before the scheduled end; lobby staff cannot extend it.

Sending six mail pages

The Sheriff’s scanning rule is five pages maximum. An oversized mailing is returned rather than scanned.

Writing on both sides

Kaufman personal mail is scanned front-side only; back-side writing triggers return.

Sending two photos

The current rule allows one photo per mailing. More than one causes the entire mailing to be returned.

Sending legal mail to Longview

The off-site scanning address explicitly does not accept legal or medical correspondence.

Sending cash for commissary

The Sheriff says cash is not accepted for inmate accounts; use Tiger or a correctly completed money order.

Choosing any bail advertisement

Use the county’s approved bonding-company list and Bail Bond Board information.

Confusing jail charge with court outcome

Check the official court case for later filings and disposition.

Trusting a courtesy docket as final

Kaufman County warns that selected posted dockets may not reflect later changes during the two weeks before court.
