Kenosha County, Wisconsin Custody Guide 2026
Find a Kenosha County Jail Inmate, Booking Record and Current Custody Status
Start with Kenosha County’s current inmate roster to locate someone recently booked or still in custody. Then use the inmate ID and housing information to check court charges, bond, visitation, mail, phone funds, property release or a later custody-status change.
Kenosha County operates two detention locations, and the jail roster can change quickly. This guide helps you distinguish a booking entry from the final court record, identify the correct facility, and take the next action without relying on an outdated third-party roster.

Choose the Fastest Route to the Information You Need
Someone was just arrested
Search the current roster first. If no result appears, allow time for transport, identification, medical screening and booking before calling Intake/Release.
You need the inmate ID
Open the roster record and copy the ID exactly. It is useful for money deposits, mail, visitation and jail questions.
You need the final charges
Use Wisconsin Circuit Court Access after locating the inmate. The Sheriff warns that roster charges may reflect the arresting agency’s original booking charges.
You want to post bond
Confirm the current bond and case before paying. Kenosha County states that inmate-account kiosks cannot be used to post bond.
You want to visit
Confirm whether the inmate is at KCDC or the Pre-Trial Facility, then register and schedule through the approved visitation system.
The person disappeared from the roster
Check court records and call Intake/Release. Removal may mean release, transfer, status change or another custody event.

How to Search the Kenosha County Jail Inmate Roster
Kenosha County’s official inmate-search page links users to the current roster at inmate.kenoshajs.org. Use that live roster before relying on search-engine snippets, commercial jail directories or cached arrest pages.
Search the person’s legal name.
Begin with the last name and then add the first name. Try common spelling variants if the first search fails.
Check identity carefully.
Do not identify someone from a name alone. Compare available identifying information, booking details and inmate ID.
Copy the inmate ID.
Save the number before leaving the roster. Kenosha County uses inmate IDs for several detention services.
Review booking and custody information.
Look for the current custody entry, arresting agency, listed charges, bond information and facility information shown by the live system.
Separate jail charges from court charges.
Booking charges can change after prosecutor review. Use Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for filed charges and court events.
Record the search time.
Jail data changes quickly. A screenshot from this morning may no longer reflect custody status later in the day.
Official warning: Kenosha County states that information in the inmate search should not be relied on for legal action because inmate information can change quickly.
Kenosha County Uses Two Detention Facilities
Finding a name on the roster is only the first step. Confirm where the inmate is actually housed before mailing legal documents, arriving for an on-site visit or attempting a property pickup.
Kenosha County Detention Center — KCDC
Address:
4777 88th Avenue
Kenosha, WI 53144
Phone: 262-605-5800

Kenosha County Pre-Trial Facility
Operational entrance / directory location:
927 54th Street
Kenosha, WI 53140
Phone: 262-605-5111
The Detentions Division reports an average daily population of about 250 at the Pre-Trial Facility.
Why you may see two downtown addresses: Some jail services and legal-mail instructions use the Public Safety Building at 1000 55th Street, while the Sheriff directory lists the Pre-Trial Facility entrance at 927 54th Street. Follow the address given for the specific service you are using.

Full name
Match spelling and identity.
Inmate ID
Save it for jail services.
Booking
Check current custody event.
Charges
Treat as booking information.
Bond
Verify before payment.
Facility
Confirm before visiting.
Best identifier: If two people have similar names, use the inmate ID rather than assuming the first matching name is the correct person.
Someone Was Arrested Today but Is Not on the Roster
1
Arrest
An officer takes the person into custody.
2
Transport
The person may still be moving between an arrest location, hospital, police agency or jail.
3
Intake
Identification, medical screening and property processing occur.
4
Booking
A jail record and inmate ID are created or updated.
5
Roster
Public information appears after the jail system processes the custody event.
No immediate result does not prove release. If the arrest was recent, repeat the current-inmate search later before assuming the person was never booked.
“I am trying to determine whether __________ has completed intake in Kenosha County. The arrest may have occurred around __________. Can you confirm whether the person is currently in custody or whether I should check the roster again later?”

Jail Charges Are Not Always the Final Court Charges
The Kenosha County Sheriff specifically warns that charges displayed in the inmate search are charges issued by the arresting agency at the time of arrest. They may differ from charges later filed by the District Attorney.
Use the jail roster for
Current custody, inmate identification, booking information and the charges associated with the jail entry.
Use Wisconsin court records for
Filed criminal charges, case number, court events, judge, hearings, case status and later disposition.
Use the Clerk of Circuit Court for
Court-record questions, case administration, filings, records and court payment information.
How to Cross-Check the Case
Copy the inmate’s full legal name.
Use the spelling shown in the Kenosha jail record.
Choose circuit court cases.
Search the person and narrow the county to Kenosha when appropriate.
Match the case carefully.
Compare the defendant name, filing date, county, case type and available charge information.
Review court events.
Check initial appearance, bail or bond orders, preliminary hearing, arraignment and later hearings.

How to Check and Post Bond for a Kenosha County Inmate
Locate the correct inmate.
Confirm the full name and inmate ID before discussing a bond.
Verify the bond information.
Compare the roster with the current court case when a judge has already entered a bond order.
Check for more than one case.
A person can have multiple cases, holds, warrants or agencies involved. Satisfying one bond may not cause release.
Do not use an inmate-account kiosk for bond.
Kenosha County explicitly states that the jail deposit kiosks cannot be used for posting bond.
Use Kenosha Joint Services.
Bond is posted through Joint Services at the Public Safety Building, 1000 55th Street, Kenosha.
Keep the bond receipt.
Save proof of the amount, defendant, case or transaction and time of payment.
Allow release processing time.
Posting a bond does not mean someone walks out immediately. Jail staff must verify eligibility and complete discharge processing.
Before paying: Ask whether there are additional holds, warrants, probation or revocation matters, another jurisdiction’s hold, or another case preventing release.
Kenosha County Jail Visitation: Know the Facility First
Family and friends may use video visitation. Kenosha County states that inmates are eligible for one free on-site visit per week, while off-site family/friend video visits are unlimited but carry a fee through the visitation provider.
Search the inmate first.
Confirm the inmate’s full name, ID and current facility.
Register with the approved visitation provider.
Kenosha County directs visitors to
GettingOut.
Have valid photo identification.
Adult visitors must provide valid ID for registration and check-in.
Schedule the correct facility.
An on-site visit must occur at the facility where the inmate is housed.
Review the dress and behavior rules.
Visitors are subject to search, appropriate dress is required and food or drink is not permitted in the visiting area.

Major mail change effective March 30, 2026
Do Not Send Ordinary Personal Mail Directly to the Jail

How to Pick Up an Inmate’s Personal Property
The inmate must start the request.
A family member cannot simply arrive and demand the inmate’s property.
The inmate designates the recipient.
The written request identifies the specific person authorized to receive the property.
Bring proper identification.
The jail releases property only to the designated recipient.
Expect the full property package.
Kenosha County states that individual items are not released separately.
Pre-Trial property pickup
927 54th Street — North Entrance
Monday–Friday
10:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
KCDC property pickup
4777 88th Avenue — Main Entrance
Monday–Friday
8:30–11:30 a.m. and 1:00–4:00 p.m.
No weekend property releases. Verify the inmate’s housing location and recipient authorization before traveling.
Release of Money From an Inmate Trust Account
An inmate may initiate a request to release Trust-account funds to a designated person. The recipient must show identification. Kenosha County publishes pickup on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the south entrance of the Pre-Trial Building, 927 54th Street.
Why an Inmate Can Disappear From the Roster
Released
Bond, court order, sentence completion or another release authorization may end county custody.
Transferred
The inmate may move between Kenosha facilities, another county, a state prison, federal custody or another agency.
Court-related movement
In-custody defendants may be transported for court, medical appointments or other authorized movements.
Database status changed
Public roster information can update as the booking or custody record changes.
Do not use disappearance from a web roster as proof of release. Check the court case and, when necessary, call Intake/Release at
262-605-5111.
Use Wisconsin VINE for Custody-Status Notifications
If knowing about a future release or custody change matters for safety or planning, repeated manual roster checking is not the best option. Wisconsin VINE provides custody-status information and allows registration for notifications.
VINE notifications
Users can register for supported phone, email, text or other notification methods when custody status changes.
Wisconsin VINE phone
1-888-944-8463
The county describes the service as anonymous and free.
Safety planning: If you are a victim or witness with immediate safety concerns, use the appropriate emergency or victim-services route rather than depending only on a public jail roster.
Current Roster, Archive Search and Removal Requests
Removal is not automatic: Kenosha County says a person seeking removal must provide proof from Wisconsin’s Crime Information Bureau that the arrest fingerprints were removed from the state Criminal History Repository. The Sheriff’s Department then considers the request.

Quick Action Scenarios
Parent looking after an overnight arrest
Search the live roster, save the inmate ID, check court records, then call Intake/Release only if the custody status remains unclear.
Family member preparing a visit
Confirm the housing facility before creating a GettingOut visit. The on-site schedule differs between KCDC and Pre-Trial.
Friend sending a letter
Since March 30, 2026, ordinary personal mail goes to the off-site Phoenix, Maryland processing center—not directly to Kenosha.
Person trying to post bond
Verify the court’s current bond and other holds. Do not use the commissary kiosk; the county directs bond posting to Joint Services.
Victim waiting for release information
Register with Wisconsin VINE rather than depending solely on manual roster checks.
Attorney or professional visitor
Follow the professional GettingOut registration process and facility rules. Court video proceedings receive priority over professional in-person visitation space.
Family retrieving property
Wait until the inmate files the required written release and designates the recipient. Bring ID and use the hours for the correct facility.
Person researching final charges
Treat the roster as booking information and use Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for the filed criminal case.
Person searching an older booking
Use Kenosha County’s separate archive search for records before May 2, 2017.
