Oakland County Jail Inmate Search & Roster 2026

Oakland County, Michigan · Inmate lookup and family action guide

Oakland County Booking Lookup, Bond, Video Visits, Mail and Release Help

Finding a person in Oakland County custody is only the first step. The official locator can be delayed, the jail and court may display different information, and money for commissary cannot be used for phone or video credits.

This all-in-one guide explains the live search, identity checks, booking delays, bond methods, current visitation schedule, phone and message costs, two different mail addresses, medical contacts, release procedure, court records and the county fees families often discover too late.

Accuracy warning: Oakland County says its inmate information may be as much as 72 hours out of date, depending on the day of the week. Confirm the person with the inmate number, booking details and court before sending money, posting bond or publishing an accusation. An arrest or charge is not proof of guilt.

Choose the fastest way to locate the correct person

1
You know the name

Search the last name first, then add the first name or other identifiers only when too many matches appear.

2
You have an inmate number

Use it as the primary identity check. The same number is needed for mail, deposits, messages and many jail calls.

3
You know the arresting city

Check whether the person is still at a city lockup, has reached Oakland County, or was arraigned in a specific district court.

Best search habit: Save the inmate number immediately. A name alone can match the wrong person, while the inmate number connects the jail record with mail, deposits and service accounts.

Choose the problem you need to solve

Use the guide by task rather than opening several county pages.

60-second lookup

How to search the Oakland County Jail inmate roster

Open the official CLEMIS Inmate Locator Use the county-linked live search, read the disclaimer and accept the terms. Do not begin with an advertising-heavy third-party roster.
Select the correct facility Choose Oakland County Jail when the locator asks for a jail. CLEMIS can include more than one participating agency, so verify the facility before opening a record.
Search broadly first Enter the legal last name. Add the first name only if needed. Try a maiden name, former surname, hyphen variation, suffix or alternate spelling.
Open the likely record Compare the inmate number, age or birth information, booking date, custody location, charges, court and bond details.
Check the record date Oakland County warns that records can lag by as much as 72 hours. A recent arrest or release may not appear immediately.
Save the key identifiers Write down the exact booked name, inmate number, charge, court of jurisdiction and any bond information shown.
Confirm time-sensitive information by phone Call 248-858-1800 before paying, visiting or arranging pickup. For a specific charge or bond type, contact the court of jurisdiction.

What an Oakland County inmate result means

Use each field for the right follow-up action
Field What it tells you What to do next
Inmate number The jail identifier connected with the person. Use it for mail, money, messages, calls and identity verification.
Booking date When the person entered the county booking process. Compare it with the arrest date and allow for the county’s update delay.
Charge The allegation associated with the booking or court case. Contact the court for the precise charge, bond type and current case status.
Bond The amount or release condition presently reported. Verify every case and hold before paying; a single payment may not clear all matters.
Court The district or circuit court handling the matter. Use that court for charge, hearing, bond and case-document questions.
Custody location The current jail or agency shown in the locator. Call before visiting because housing and transfers can change.
Release or outdate An expected or completed release event. Do not assume the person has exited until the bonding window confirms clearance.
Charge and bond limitation: Oakland County directs users to the court of jurisdiction for the inmate’s specific charge or bond type. The jail locator is not a substitute for the court register of actions.
Troubleshooting

No Oakland County inmate record found? Follow this decision path

Arrested today The person may still be at the local police department, completing intake, awaiting arraignment or waiting for the public locator to update.
Name may be recorded differently Search only the last name, then try a maiden name, compound surname, suffix or alternate spelling.
Record may be delayed The county warns that its records may be up to 72 hours behind, especially around weekends or court-processing periods.
Person may have been released A bond, court order, scheduled outdate or completed sentence can remove the person from current-custody results.
Possible state custody Use Michigan OTIS only after a state-prison, parole or probation transfer. OTIS does not list county-jail inmates or city lockups.
Possible federal custody Use the Bureau of Prisons locator for federal inmates from 1982 forward; “not in BOP custody” does not rule out another jail or agency.
Useful call script “I am trying to confirm whether [full legal name], date of birth [date], is currently in Oakland County custody. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. I have [inmate or case number]. Can you confirm the facility, release or transfer status?”

Oakland County Jail facility, booking and addresses

The county uses two closely related Telegraph Road addresses. Use the Main Jail address for visits and physical jail activity; use Building 38E when a county form or refund request specifically directs mail to the Sheriff’s administrative or accounting unit.

Main Jail and visitation
1201 North Telegraph Road
Pontiac, MI 48341

Use for on-site visits, the bonding window and jail entry.

Sheriff administrative address
1200 North Telegraph Road
Building 38E
Pontiac, MI 48341-1044

Used for Sheriff’s administration, inmate accounting and specified written requests.

Oakland County correctional facilities and current use
Area County-published detail Family impact
Main Jail maximum-security floor Approximately 440 general-population inmates. Classification and housing can affect access, programs and movement.
First-floor intake Holding tanks and observation cells for newly arrested people. A very recent arrestee may remain in processing before a normal housing assignment appears.
Attached Annex Direct-supervision facility with capacity for an additional 487 inmates. The inmate’s location may change after classification.
East Annex County page says the 398-capacity facility is currently closed and not housing inmates. Do not travel to an older East Annex address based on an outdated directory.
Health clinic Operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with seven single cells. Medical placement can limit what staff may disclose because of HIPAA.
Volume context: Oakland County reported 12,247 jail admissions in 2024. High booking volume is one reason a recently arrested person may move through intake, classification and housing before all public details stabilize.

What happens after an arrest reaches Oakland County Jail?

Initial booking call The inmate may make a short initial call of up to three minutes. The county says this does not count as the regular free call.
Identification, property and account setup Personal money and property are recorded. A $12 jail-booking fee is charged to the inmate account under the current guide.
Health and risk screening Medical, mental-health, withdrawal and safety needs can affect housing and services.
Arraignment and bond If no bond exists before arraignment, the district court sets or reviews release conditions. The jail cannot replace the court for specific bond-type questions.
Classification and housing The person may move between intake, Main Jail or Annex housing. Public information may lag behind internal movement.
Release, sentence or transfer The person may bond out, receive a court release, serve a county sentence or transfer to state or federal custody.
Bond and court money

How Oakland County Jail bond, fines and costs actually work

Bonding hours

The jail bonding area operates 24 hours a day. During court hours, the inmate guide says payment at the court is preferred.

Accepted at jail

Cash, credit card, cashier’s check payable to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, or a bail bondsman.

$10,000 cash bond rule

Cash bonds of $10,000 or more are processed at the court of jurisdiction rather than the jail.

Bond and payment terms users often confuse
Term Meaning Practical action
Regular bond A court-set release obligation handled under the order. Confirm amount, payment method and all cases before paying.
Surety bond A bond posted through an approved bail bond arrangement. The jail posts court-compiled lists but does not recommend a bondsman.
Interim bond A bond that may be set before arraignment in qualifying circumstances. Ask the arresting agency whether an interim bond exists.
Fines and costs Court-ordered penalties and fees, not security for future appearance. At the jail they may be paid by cash, credit card or cashier’s check.
Inmate account for bond Trust-account money may be applied to bond with the inmate’s approval. Tell the visitation or bonding officer before depositing if funds must be reserved for bond.
Verify the court of jurisdiction The court controls the specific charge, bond type and changes to release conditions.
Check every case and hold Ask whether another warrant, detainer, probation matter or jurisdiction will block release after payment.
Confirm where payment must be made Use the court during business hours when directed; use the jail’s 24-hour bonding area for eligible payments outside court hours.
Ask about card fees before swiping The county confirms credit cards are accepted but tells users to contact the jail or court for current fees.
Keep the receipt and inmate number Save the amount, payment time, court, case and name of the accepting office.
Confirm physical release separately Bond payment does not eliminate other holds or the time needed for LEIN checks, property and release processing.
Cryptocurrency warning: Oakland County Jail explicitly states that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency are not valid bond payments. Verify any unexpected payment demand by calling 248-858-1800.

Only the person who registered and scheduled may visit
Bring a current driver’s license, state ID or passport

Oakland County inmate phone calls, electronic messages and photos

Current communication costs and limits
Service County-published detail What families should do
Paid phone call 6 credits, or $0.06, per minute. Fund the phone account separately from commissary and video.
Free phone call One free 15-minute call per inmate per day. The short initial booking call does not count as the regular free call.
Electronic message Up to 30,000 characters; $0.50 per message. Create a SmartInmate account with a $5 minimum deposit and one-time $1.50 setup fee.
Photo message $1 per photo. Follow content rules; messages and photos may be monitored.
Saturday free messages Two free messages: one incoming and one outgoing. Use the free allowance before paying for additional Saturday messages.
Attorney call Free and unlimited when confidential-call procedures are completed. The attorney must submit the required letter with phone numbers and bar number.
Separate accounts: The county says phone-call credits, video-visit credits and inmate trust-account money are separate. Money in the commissary account cannot automatically pay for phone calls or tablet credits.

Recorded-call rule and confidential attorney calls

Outgoing inmate calls are recorded. For attorney calls not to be recorded, the criminal defense attorney must send a letter on attorney letterhead to the Executive Lieutenant, Oakland County Jail, 1201 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, MI 48341. The letter must identify the inmate, attorney phone numbers and attorney bar number. Changes must be updated by the attorney.

Calls that may disconnect: The inmate guide warns that three-way calling and call conferencing may cause a call to be disconnected.
Trust account and commissary

How to deposit money and what may be deducted

Online or phone deposit

Use Smart Communications with the exact inmate name and inmate number. Customer support is 727-349-1561 or 888-253-5178.

In-person drop-off

Cash or money orders may be dropped in the Main Jail visitation area. Personal checks are not accepted. Write the inmate name and number clearly on a money order.

Commissary rules from the official inmate guide

Commissary and account details
Item Official guide rule Practical effect
Ordering frequency Orders may be placed once each week through designated kiosks. Deposit before the order cutoff rather than expecting immediate delivery.
Order limit Up to $150 per order. A larger account balance does not mean the inmate can spend all of it in one order.
Indigent order Available when the account has $2 or less. The cost may be collected later if future money is deposited.
Cash by mail Do not mail cash. Use the approved deposit method or exact-cash jail deposit.
Bond reservation Trust money can pay all or part of bond with inmate approval. Tell the officer before depositing when money should be reserved for bond.

Fees and deductions families should know before depositing

Possible deductions from an Oakland County inmate account
Charge Published rule Why it matters
Jail booking fee $12 charged to the inmate account. A new deposit may first cover a negative booking-fee balance.
Restitution and victim-rights fees For a sentenced inmate receiving more than $50 in a month, 50% of the amount above $50 may be deducted. Example in the guide: a $75 deposit can produce a $12.50 deduction.
Medical balance Unpaid medical charges may be collected from future deposits during the current or a future incarceration. Deposited money may not all remain available for commissary.
Indigent commissary Prior indigent orders may be charged when money later arrives. Check the available balance after deposit rather than assuming the full amount is spendable.
$12 booking-fee refund: The guide says a refund may be requested when all cases are terminated or the person is found not guilty. The written request should include the inmate number, booking date, charges, case number, court and judge and be mailed to OCSO Inmate Accounting, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Building 38E, Pontiac, MI 48341-1044.
