No inmate found? Follow this Volusia County decision path
The arrest was very recent
Identification, medical screening and intake may still be underway. Recheck after the next 15-minute update and call booking.
The name may differ
Try the last name alone, maiden name, former surname, hyphen variation, suffix or different spacing.
The person may still be with the arresting agency
Large bags, purses and backpacks may remain with that law-enforcement agency, and a new arrestee may not yet be fully entered at the county jail.
The record disappeared
The person may have bonded, been released, transferred or moved to another jurisdiction.
The person may be in state prison
Use Florida Department of Corrections offender search when the county confirms transfer to state custody.
You need historical arrest data
The Clerk publishes daily 24-hour arrest/booking reports for about 14 days; current custody should still be verified through the jail.

What happens during the first 24 hours in Volusia County Jail?
Booking and screening
Money carried by the person is deposited into an inmate account. Personal property is inventoried; oversized items such as backpacks or purses may remain with the arresting agency.
Medical and mental-health screening
Every person is screened after booking. Communication and visits are restricted during the initial 72 hours because of classification, housing changes, court and medical evaluations.
First Appearance within one day
The judge reviews the charges and probable cause and may raise, lower or keep bond, release the person, place the person on pretrial supervision or appoint a public defender.
Case Management orientation
After First Appearance, a counselor interviews and classifies the inmate using charges, criminal history and other factors.
Housing assignment
Security assigns the person to a suitable unit. Classification can change later because of behavior, charges, medical needs or custody status.
First Appearance is open to the public: It is held at the Branch Jail at 1:30 p.m. Monday–Friday and 8:30 a.m. weekends and holidays.

Save proof of payment and ask when release paperwork actually begins.
Plan for processing time
After paperwork begins, release normally takes two to four hours and may take longer after court.
Fraud warning: Volusia County Corrections says no jail employee will solicit a bond. Do not send Zelle, PayPal, Cash App, Bitcoin, gift card or similar payments to a caller or texter claiming to be jail staff or a bondsman.

Every visitor 18 or older needs unaltered photo ID showing date of birth. Student ID is not accepted.
Visitors under 18
Bring state ID, birth certificate, custody/adoption papers or other legal identity documents and an accompanying adult.

Up to two people and two small children; everyone must arrive together.

Children must remain supervised
Initial 72-hour restriction: Visits are restricted during the first 72 hours and require Operations Supervisor approval because of classification, court, housing and medical activity. Inmates in disciplinary confinement cannot receive visits.
Permanent restriction risk: Being asked to leave more than twice can permanently end visitation privileges. Provocative or sexual conduct can result in immediate permanent denial.

- Mail with perfume, lipstick, paint or another biohazard may be returned or destroyed.
- Hand-delivered mail is refused.
- Mail for a person no longer in custody is returned unopened.
- Cash, personal checks, payroll checks and food are prohibited.
Books and packages
Only religious books, magazines or publications are allowed, and they must be prepaid and sent directly by a bookstore, publisher, book club or reputable distributor. The inmate may keep no more than three paperback publications in housing. Packages from family or friends are not accepted.
Attorney-advertisement address is different: Legal solicitations must be marked as advertisements and sent to SCH-VCDC FL, inmate name and booking number, PO Box 30, Pinellas Park, FL 33781. Advertisements sent directly to the jail are returned.

Communication restriction: Calls, texting, mail access and visits may be restricted during the initial 72 hours while the inmate moves through classification, housing changes, court and medical evaluations.

Find the court date, criminal case and attorney information
After First Appearance, it usually takes one to two days for the Clerk to process future court dates. Hearings may occur at any of Volusia County’s court locations, so use the court notice or Case Inquiry rather than assuming Daytona or DeLand.

Collect within five days
After five days, unclaimed property returns to storage and is released with the inmate later.
Important exceptions: Clothing is not released because it is reissued at release. Checks use the same approval process and are printed only in the inmate’s name. Large bags and backpacks may be held by the arresting agency rather than Corrections.
If the inmate is released first: The property-release request becomes void and the property leaves with the inmate.
